Welcome to the website of augustana!

The Augustana-Hochschule Neuendettelsau was founded in 1947 as a Divinity School of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Bavaria.
It is the outcome of the Church's struggle with National Socialism.

The Institution is therefore more independent from the state than the faculties at German universities. It has close ties with the church's social and welfare work and with its missionary work. In 1990, the Divinity School was conferred the right to award doctoral degrees and in the near future a master's program will be established. Please ask!

The Divinity School is located in a beautiful landscaped park and offers opportunities for close communication between students and staff. Neuendettelsau is only 25 miles from Nuremberg (= Nürnberg). The city can easily be reached by train or car.

There are good contacts with the nearby Theological Faculty of the Catholic University of Eichstätt, the Theological Menighetsfakultet in Oslo (Norway) and the Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa (USA). The school also maintains connections with the Lutheran Churches of Papua New Guinea, Brazil, Tanzania and Zaire through a scholarship program.

International students are of course welcome at the Augustana-Hochschule. They should be aware that all lectures, seminars and the Latin, Greek and Hebrew language courses are held in German. However, doctoral dissertations and translations in language examinations can be written in English.
